POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT (PGDM) LEADING TO THE DEGREE IN
MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA)/MASTER OF SCIENCE (M.Sc.)

INTRODUCTION

The Faculty of Management Studies of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Mihintale successfully conducts four undergraduate degree programmes, one Postgraduate Diploma and two Master’s Degree programmes in Management. The PGDM has designed to meet the challenges encountered by Sri Lankan managers and to promote their knowledge, skill and attitudes to enhance their productivity through effective and efficient managerial abilities. At the end of the PGDM Programme, successful students will be eligible for award of the PGDM and based on performance, they have option to proceed to the MBA or M.Sc.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PGDM PROGRAMME

1. To equip managers with appropriate knowledge and skills to be more effective and efficient in strategic managerial decision making.
2. To make opportunities for the practicing managers to widen their managerial abilities with appropriate decision making techniques.
3. To help managers to identify problems through research and to suggest solutions ensuring sustainable development.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

1. A Bachelors Degree in a recognized University or equivalent OR
2. Any Professional qualification with 3 year post qualifying experience OR
3. Five years executive experience acceptable to the Senate of the University
are qualified to be admitted to this programme.
(Participants will be selected from a written examination or/and an interview)

PEDAGOGY

The pedagogy consists of problem based and student centered learning mainly on case studies seminars, workshops, project report and presentations. Less emphasis will be given to lectures in order to make opportunities for the participants to discuss their experiences. The teacher will act only as a facilitator in this process.

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

The students’ performance will be assessed continuously throughout the semester with an end of semester examination. The Continuous Assessment will be based on Classroom – assignment/presentations/ tutorials/ project reports and/ or Mid – Term Examination (Including incident tests)
The pass mark to be earned for Continuous Assessment is 50% which is required to be eligible to sit the end semester examination. The pass marks for the end semester examination as well will be 50%.

Lectures/seminars will be conducted during weekends (including public holidays) from 09:00 hrs to 16:30 hrs at Colombo and Mihintale centers

SELECTION  CRITERIA FOR MBA/M.Sc.

    1. Candidates who are registered under the admission requirement i: to complete the PGDM programme.
    2.
    Candidates who registered under the admission requirement ii and iii: to complete the PGDM programme with 60% average.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

Medium of instruction is English
